otelo Turkey Roaming 2026: Travel packages or travel eSIM?
otelo Turkey Roaming 2026: Travel packages or travel eSIM?
Short answer: With otelo, Turkey is not included in standard EU roaming. According to the official otelo price list, Turkey is in Zone 2. For mobile data, there are travel packages such as 300 MB for 24 hours, 1 GB for 7 days, or 3 GB for 7 days. If you use maps, messengers, banking, and short videos daily while on holiday in Turkey, a separate travel eSIM is often easier to plan than roaming after a small package has been used up.
I wouldn't wait until I'm at the airport in Antalya to sort this out. The situation with otelo is actually straightforward, but you have to read it carefully once: EU roaming is not Turkey roaming. If you confuse the two, you will either book too little data or leave data roaming on for too long.
Are you traveling to Turkey with otelo? With a VoiSim Turkey eSIM, you use mobile data separately from your otelo contract. Your normal number remains on your phone for WhatsApp, SMS, and calls.
How much does otelo roaming cost in Turkey?
In the otelo price list dated June 18, 2026, Turkey is listed under roaming destinations in Zone 2. For Zone 2, otelo lists the following data options, among others:
| otelo option | Data volume | Duration | Price per price list |
|---|---|---|---|
| Travel-Day Data Zone 2 | 300 MB | 24 hours | €3.99 |
| Travel-Week Data Zone 2 | 1 GB | 7 days | €9.99 |
| Travel-Week Data Zone 2 | 3 GB | 7 days | €19.99 |
The sentence in the price list is important: if the included volume is used up before the option expires, data usage will be blocked until the expiry time. After that, otelo will again charge according to the standard roaming tariff. For Zone 2, the price list cites €0.49 per 50 kB for standard data roaming. That is exactly what you want to avoid on holiday.
Are 300 MB or 1 GB enough for Turkey?
For a few WhatsApp messages and quick checks, 300 MB might last a day. For a normal day of travel in Istanbul, Izmir, or along the coast, it will quickly get tight: Google Maps, restaurant searches, banking apps, translators, taxi apps, and a few photos in a chat use more data than you realize while on the go.
1 GB for 7 days sounds relaxed, but with active navigation and social media, it is more of a safety net than a holiday package. 3 GB for 7 days is more realistic, but remains tight if two or three days involve a lot of navigation.
When is a Turkey eSIM more sensible than otelo roaming?
A travel eSIM is particularly worthwhile if you want to use mobile data actively and don't want to calculate every evening. You install the eSIM before your trip, leave your otelo SIM in the phone, and use the eSIM for data in Turkey. Your otelo number remains on the device, for example for WhatsApp or SMS codes.
This is not a question of either/or. For calls and SMS, otelo may remain important. For internet, a separate Turkey eSIM is often a cleaner separation: data runs via the travel package, and your main contract remains protected.
How to avoid roaming stress with otelo in Turkey
Before you depart, check the Mein otelo app or the customer portal to see which roaming options are visible for your contract. Also, download the otelo price list if you want to have the official prices in black and white.
Before you take off, you should decide on your phone which SIM is allowed to use mobile data. If you are using a travel eSIM, set mobile data to the eSIM. Your otelo SIM will remain active so you can be reached, but data roaming on the otelo SIM should only be switched on intentionally.
